WWWATER PINK LETTERS

‘Pink Letters’ is a break-up song that doesn’t sound like a break-up song. As contradictory as that may sound, it’s entirely applicable to Charlotte Adigéry’s sophomore single, which about self-belief, healing and valuing those people who are there for you following the end of a relationship. It’s another example of the Soulwax collaborator’s personal approach to songwriting, furthered by a found-footage video which “features people that are very dear to me: my family, my boyfriend, my closest friends, my godchild - people that bring me happiness in the smallest things," as Adigéry tells us. The song itself is built up with drawn-out electronic keys and digital beats, collectively giving ‘Pink Letters’ a spiritual, otherworldly air. Add that to the Belgian artist’s softly soulful and at many times raw vocals, portraying profound revelations, such as “I believe that time is now” and “I don’t regret a single word,” and ‘Pink Letters’ comes across as a song of wisdom, much different to the expected post-break-up tracks we all too often hear. So far, WWWater’s combination of tactile electronics and honest lyricism has been incredibly effective, as we heard with her acclaimed debut, and it all bodes well for her upcoming debut EP, due this September. - HT
